Microblog Mondays - Smart women

My father has been somewhat of a Lothario as he is is working through his grief.

For reasons I don't comprehend, women live longer than men. That means as a straight widower he has his pick of women to keep company with.

He suggested that his popularity was due to the same things that fueled his popularity in college chiefly that he still has a lot of his hair and he still drives.

As for the women he has dated, some I like better than others, but none of them are bad. The other thing that I notice is they all have one thing in common.  Intelligence.

I'm not saying common sense intelligence but I guess an intellectual curiosity that reminds me (rather unsurprisingly) of my mother. I find it funny that my father has a type--and the type is intelligent women.

Like my mom.
Like me.

  1. My dad too. When my mother died, like you say, there were so many widows around. Some showed up at his door the day after the funeral. Even the ones who had husbands were his friends. I once asked him why he was closer with the women than the men to which he replied in his own inimitable way: "The wives are all nice. But the husbands are a bunch of schmucks."

  2. As hard as it must be to observe, it made me smile thinking about this lone guy in a sea of eligible older women. I'm glad he's picking the smart ones.

  3. That's lovely! I like a man who likes intelligent women. When my father died, my mother was alone for over ten years. She joined a group called "Widows and Widowers" but there were only ever one or two men! Friendships/companionship/new relationships - I'd have been happy whatever helped her deal with the loneliness.

  4. Pam, that's a really sweet post. I know this is hard for you, but you're putting your dad's happiness upfront. Also, I can hear him say, "I have my hair and I drive." with plenty of humor in his voice - that humor is what's making him so attractive.
